This is the local site for the Nailsea Backwell and District Diabetes Support Group.

We also have an official Diabetes UK site, where news is updated regularly. This site provides local information and links which we can not add to the DUK site.

Our group supports people living with diabetes within the local community, including Clevedon and Yatton, Congressbury, Long Ashton and South Bristol. ANYONE with an interest in Diabetes, either as patient, carer, or healthcare professional is welcome to attend any of our activities, or receive our updates.

Click on the Subscribe  button to make sure you are kept up to date with our activities!

Alternatively you can always Contact Us!

A Junior Group is linked to us, offering support to the families with children with diabetes in the wider North Somerset community. They have regular network meetings and have an active Facebook group.

The majority of our activity is at the Tower House Medical Centre and because of their continuing support, plus support from the Nailsea Town Council, almost everything we do is free to people attending. Check out the Current Programme

We work closely with the Primary Care Trust, Community Diabetes Support  and local health care practitioners to try to bring you relevant and up to date Information Evenings.

We have regular coffee mornings where there is always an information table and a notice board with updates from various groups. There is also good chat, coffee, tea and delicious (and healthy!) cakes or biscuits.

We also have 2 newsletters per year and  send regular e-mail bulletins.

The aim of this site is to provide a locally relevant resource. Please check out the links to local health centres and other information.

We also want to promote awareness of this condition. Known as a silent killer, people can go undiagnosed for up to ten years, yet early intervention can prevent the damage and long term complications. If you are involved in an organisation and would like someone to talk to your group or be present at a seminar or event, then Contact Us

    Hi Ray
Sorry for delay, for some reason this didn’t hit my e-mail.
The group is simply a support group providing information evenings every two months where medics give advice and info; coffee mornings where there is literature available, and some walks and other occasional outings. Joining is simply a matter of giving us your details :name, address, tel, e-mail. We put you on the list, let you know what’s happening and you come if you feel it is relevant to you. We tend not to charge, except for tea and coffee and mostly ask for donations
We are trying to do more about awareness building and possibly even fund raising, so there would be opportunities to get more involved.
    E-mail your details to bharris@blueyonder.co.uk
    Regards
    Barbara
